The sense of Twitter for business

For about two years I have my nice profile on Twitter and almost two years trying to understand exactly what this tool could serve. For two years I have answered nothing, or worse, I could see Twitter only as a service to Facebook limited the amendment to the "states" (and with less potential for gossip:))

The reality is that Twitter is really nothing more to this and much more, to begin to approach the instrument board reading Ogilvy360 Twitter for business, really well done.

In short I think my mistake in the past two years has consisted in approaching a site like Twitter, as I do every day on Facebook and in fact even with my GReader expecting to find in one place a depth and detail information that Twitter is gathered only by learning a new grammar, new codes can unlock the potential information that can not be captured fully understood at twitter.com.

The fundamental difference for me was going from short to see Twitter as a site within which to tell what I'm doing (and perhaps vulgar to be updated with my status on Facebook or any messenger via Ping.fm) imagine instead Twitter as a communication platform to be used to tell what catches my attention, gather feedback, expand my network synthesis without generating information overload.

One of the downsides that I found in these first weeks of use is the massive lack of resources "Italian" quality, from what I saw, but I could be wrong, there are no major Italian newspapers (as is CNN, NYT , WSJ), there are the Italian companies and unfortunately most of the professionals that I added does not seem to have grasped the full potential of this tool (I read so many tweets like "I got up," "I'm going to them," " I found traffic ".. it's really all there is?).

It will be the same syndrome of "self" that afflict the Italian blogosphere and restricts development and value? I do not know, but maybe it's also why Mark Tweet in English), and I admit, I'm imitating!

Two notable exceptions and excellence I have found: the first case is to Francesco Zonin, the Zonin winery, which also has a nice blog, updated and complete. the second is ATAC Mobile, a service of the transport company in Rome with updates on road conditions etc still experimental, but it seems like a good idea.

What do you think?

I missed something? Other Italian houses interesting?

ps. Now I understand what I need FriendFeed, but ... well .. I've got only got two years to Twitter, I have no time eh:)

ps2. Twitter currently does not eat a lot of money and it's true. Am I not have the responsibility to generate revenue for them (thank goodness), but I like to note that, when there is a banner that is on the pages of twitter.com. They may not know how to make money, but at least they know what NOT to do:)
